New Provo High School
The new 43-acre site for Provo High School has better proximity to the residents who attend Provo High. With this large undeveloped site, the school was organized in zones that facilitate both academics and extracurricular activities. Parking was strategically arranged to separately accommodate students, faculty, and events where it is needed most.
Utah County and Provo has increasingly become a tech mecca. The new high school was designed with a nod to tradition with materials such as brick, but with clean lines and a neutral modern pallet. Vibrant touches of color on the interiors add vitality and a refined youthful feel.
The school layout is centered around a main structure with three wings extruding from it. The commons, auditorium, media center, CTE, athletics, and performing arts are found in that main building while the wings house the academics and administration. This design provides a separation of spaces while keeping departments adjacent.

Provo High School began in 1912 after a special election favored a one mill levy to furnish the city with a high school building and equipment. When the high school began in 1912 it provided just 1 year of schooling beyond the 8th grade; soon it provided 2 years. About 1914 the eighth grade had became part of the high school, giving the high school grades 8-10. In 1917 the 11th grade was added to the curriculum.
In 1921 Provo High School began graduating students. Two junior high schools were opened in 1931 (Farrer and Dixon) they took grades 7-9, which had already been organized into a separate school sometime earlier (the Jr. High and High schools shared the same facilities for several years).
The first High School building was constructed in 1919 with major additions and improvements the following year. It appears that prior to the construction of the high school building, classes were held in the Central School on the same block. Once the building was completed in 1920 it became apparent that there was a need for an auditorium; three years later, an auditorium was built for the high school. Another 3 years passed and the Science and Arts building was added to the campus. The high school located on University Avenue was constructed and occupied in 1956 and sold to BYU in 2016. Rebuild of Provo High Field
In August of 2013, the Provo High School Athletic Field rebuild was completed at a cost of $3.2 Million.
A new construction includes four levels above ground as follows:
- First level – restrooms, concessions, storage, offices, and team rooms;
- Second level – mechanical, storage
- Third level – press box, electrical room
- Fourth level – stair to observation deck
- Bleachers seating approximately 1600 seats
- An 8-lane athletic track and field equipment
- Synthetic playing field
- Field lighting
- Public Restrooms with ADA Access

Signs at Provo High
Designs for Provo High School’s environmental graphics were completed with collaboration with the school’s steering committee and architectural team. The graphics solution incorporates a versatile typeface and consistent color palette that pairs well with the palette selected by the interiors team. A custom drawn bulldog mascot was drawn, abstracted, and installed on the brick façade of the main entrance, a highly visible symbol of school pride. Formed metal slats were placed in the mortar joints. Wayfinding signage, decorative vinyl wall graphics, and stand-off ornamental signage were designed for interior spaces and follow the school colors. Additionally, the graphic design team worked with the entire team to successfully implement signage in diverse areas campus wide, including play fields and entrance signage. FFRK Architects
